Detroit Symphony Orchestra sees in the season by showing us two sides of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker! Performing Tchaikovsky's timeless Nutcracker Suite composition for ballet, followed by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn's swinging, jazz re-imagining of the work from 1960, it's a true Nutcracker bonanza!
As well as heralding in the festivities with the classic ballet soundtrack, the orchestra are also joined by world class violinist Ray Chen to perform Samuel Barber's stunning Violin Concerto, in addition to the excellent Four Black American Dances by Grammy-nominated composer and activist Carlos Simon.
