The Wizard of Oz

Why see The Wizard of Oz?

We're Off To See The Wizard!

Join Dorothy Gale and Co. as they journey down the Yellow Brick Road in search of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz in this magical production of L. Frank Baum's beloved hit, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Based on Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s legendary The Wizard of Oz - which famously starred Judy Garland - expect classic songs you know and love, including 'Over the Rainbow', 'We're Off to See the Wizard', and 'Follow the Yellow Brick Road', and many more from one of the most cherished stories ever brought to stage and screen.

What Is The Story?

After being swept away by a hurricane, Kansas farmgirl Dorothy and her trusty dog Toto find themselves in the strange land of Oz, where the roads are yellow and the cities are emerald. But all is not well in this technicolor territory, and if Dorothy and Toto stand any chance of getting home, they must dodge wicked witches and flying monkeys, among more of Oz's dangerous peculiarities. Luckily, they don't have to do it alone. With the help of three of the locals - a Tin Man, a Cowardly Lion, and a Scarecrow - Dorothy takes matters into her own hands, discovering along the way the true meaning of courage, friendship and self-belief, and that sometimes, home is where the heart is.

For someone who grew up watching the original movie I found it a bit disconcerting. I really didn't appreciate the interjection of one liners and rather lame humor. It made it feel as though one felt that the original couldn't stand on its own on stage; which I feel it most surely could. There was certainly nothing I would call scary, from the sulty evening gown clad trees to the wicked witch herself. Perhaps this was intentional as I am sure the intent was to welcome families with children. The witch was almost a parody of a wicked witch to me; which again was quite possibly intentional. The flying scenes left me rather disappointed; there was really no flying , only dropping in with wires clearly visible; which made me wonder; why bother! But all in all, an enjoyable experience. Personally, lion stole the show for me! ... Read more
