A New Adaptation

Join Meadow Brook Theatre as they open their season with this classic tale of good versus evil, of law and order versus the Old West. Based on the 1953 short story by Dorothy M. Johnson, which in turn birthed the 1962 film, this Western takes us back to the late 1800s when Ranse Stoddard, a young scholar from New York City, first encountered the frontier town of Twotrees and the fearsome outlaw Liberty Valance, who delights in terrorizing its citizens.

Written by Jethro Compton, the fable enjoys a fresh adaptation, exploring the story's timeless themes of racism, guns, and violence as Ranse is enveloped in the lives of Twotrees' residents, setting out to make a difference, starting with local girl Hallie.
