Following successful runs in London and two UK tours from 2008-09, Tom Firth's heartwarming play that puts a new light on nudity makes its Detroit premiere at the Meadow Brook Theatre in 2016. Based on a true story, we follow the tale of a North Yorkshire Women's Institute in their endeavors to raise money for cancer research - by posing nude for a special charity calendar. The play is based on the 2003 comedy movie of the same name, which starred Dame Helen Mirren, Penelope Wilton and a host of British film stars. A touching play with plenty of humor, this will warm your heart through and through.
Two friends, Annie and Chris are trying to raise money for their local cancer ward to provide a sofa for relatives. When money is not forthcoming, they gain a moment of inspiration. Roping in their fellow ladies of the local Knapely WI, they decide to create a charity calendar with a difference - they will all appear in the nude, albeit with strategically placed flowers and teapots to save their modesty. With the help of the friendly hospital porter and aspiring photographer Lawrence, the ladies shed their inhibitions - and clothes - for the photo shoot of their lives.
However, nothing prepares them for the media attention this gains them, at first from the local press, and then the national media outlets and beyond. As they all come to terms with their newfound fame, some of the ladies struggle, with some explosive revelations aired along the way.
