Ethereal masterpieces
Detroit Symphony Orchestra takes to the stage with a selection of ethereal works headlined by music taken from Tchaikovsky's masterpiece, Swan Lake! Conducted by Hannu Lintu, the orchestra conjures the captivating world of Odette and her fate at the hands of her captor, to spend her nights in the guise of an elegant but heartbroken swan.
Alongside Swan Lake will be Stravinsky's beautiful Song of the Nightingale inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, as well as John Adams' Slonimsky's Earbox which itself was inspired by the Stravinsky work. Finally, cellist Wei Yu performs Shostakovich's wonderful Cello Concerto, completing an excellent program.
