Detroit Symphony Orchestra - Organ Symphony

Detroit Symphony Orchestra - Organ Symphony at Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall

Why see Detroit Symphony Orchestra - Organ Symphony?

A brilliant career

The full glory of Camille Saint-Saens is reflected in this program from the DSO, taking its title from his grand Third Symphony, a work that utilizes the drama and allure of the instrument, placing it center stage as the star of the orchestra. Seen as reflection of his career, the piece premiered in 1886 with Saint-Saens remarking, "I gave everything to it I was able to give. What I have here accomplished, I will never achieve again."

Preceding this work, you'll be able to enjoy performances of his Piano Concerto No.2, Marche Heroique, (a reaction to the 1870-71 siege of Paris) and the superstition fuelled depiction of Death's undead dance party every Halloween, Danse Macabre.
