A Celebration Of Gershwin and Milhaud

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra presents a wistful program featuring the romance of the big city, featuring ivory-tickling twin sisters Michelle and Christina Naughton, the award-winning piano duo who've played with many of the world's leading orchestras. The ensemble will be helmed by Detroit Symphony's first ever music director laureate, Leonard Slatkin.

The evening begins with prolific French composer Darius Milhaud's Le Creation du Monde, a ballet based on the creation of the world according to African folklore, and Francis Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra. Then the program whisks listeners away to the streets of the greatest cities in the world in Milhaud's A Frenchman in New York, and Gershwin's An American in Paris. Both pieces were inspired by the jazz and blues that play to the heartbeat of each city.
