Why See August Greene?
Hop Hop Super Group August Greene Hit The Road
The brainchild of modern jazz/R&B crossover visionary Robert Glasper, hip hop icon Common and drummer/producer/rapper Karriem Riggins, August Greene began life as a jam without any expectations. The trio first introduced the world to their fusion of rap and jazz with the release of their Emmy-winning, politically angled track 'Letter to the Free' as part of the soundtrack to Ava Duverney's Netflix documentary '13th'. Fortunately for our ears, the supergroup ended up making a full album together, a self-titled debut released in early March of this year, and are hitting the road this winter with this brand new material in tow.
August Greene finds Common stepping away from the gangster glamour of his early days to confront the social and cultural injustices facing black America today with sense of dignity and maturity. His flowing hip hop poetry weaves together institutional politics, the pitfalls of modern living and stories from his vibrant past, whilst Glasper and Riggins supply lush soundscapes filled with mellotron, acoustic piano and in-the-pocket hip hop beats.
