THREE AUSTRIAN GREATS

In April Detroit Symphony presents three elegant pieces from Austria, with pieces by Johann Strauss, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Strauss' supremely elegant Kaiser-Waltzer (Emperor Waltzes) opens the program, followed by Korngold's cinematic Sinfonietta from 1912. Ending the evening is Mozart's magnificent Piano Concerto No. 21.

Leading the orchestra is guest conductor Fabien Gabel, who currently serves as the music director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec. Gabel's impressive resume includes engagements with the BBC Symphony, London Symphony and Seoul Philharmonic. The pianist is Romanian-born British soloist Alexandra Dariescu, who made waves for her groundbreaking multimedia piece The Nutcracker And I which premiered at London's Barbican Milton Court in 2017.
